There is something beautiful about a blank canvas.
It calls to you waiting to be filled with color and inspiration.
Wednesday was spent at the art store gathering supplies for my second semester at Grad School at the San Francisco Academy of Art.
I always feel like a kid in a candy shop when I am in the art store drooling over bright tubes of paint, brushes and canvases. I left a bit poorer but rich in anticipation.
Grad school has challenged me to not be complacent with my art. I have the privilege to be working among some of the most talented inspiring artists. This experience has taken my understanding of the art world to a whole new level of appreciation.
As for my dream of becoming an international artist, it is simmering away on my back burner. My 2010 goal of painting in Italy is definitely a step in the right direction.
This last week I went to a winery in Santa Rosa to discuss having a show there. The Balletto Winery offered to show my work and host the opening which has been set for April 17th.
To make the Italy dream happen, I needed an additional show and here it is.
Now I have to fill up those bank canvases, promote it like crazy and sell lots of paintings!
I am brainstorming on ways to make this particular show enticing. In the past, I had live music but the space at this winery does not allow for it and weather in April is too unpredictable to make plans for outside. Another thought I had is to have a couple of paintings raffled off at the event, or possibly a silent auction.
Do you have any suggestions on creative marketing strategies for an art show to help send an artist to Italy?
On a side note, I have been painting cows lately. Here is a small 8″ x 10″quick study.
