This week I’ve been thinking a great deal about successful dream achievement and what that means.
My dream of becoming a motivational speaker has led me to understand how important it is to align oneself with people who support my dreams because it is just too easy to lose track of one’s goals.
Have you heard the quote
Tell me what company you keep and I’ll tell you what you are.
~ by Miguel de Cervantes (1547 – 1616)
There is a certain amount of truth to this statement.
People naturally emulate certain habitual ways of the company they keep. It’s not on purpose, and you may not see it immediately, but over time there will be differences in the way you speak and how you spend your free time. Haven’t you seen married couples who have been married for a long time who dress similarly?
Our surroundings influence us more than we realize.
If you surround yourself with people who are positive go-getters, you will find yourself striving for more with an attitude of “I can do this!” The same can be said if you spend your time with people who are derogatory and melancholy–watch how you care less about your life and resist constructive change.
In relationships, birds of a feather tend to flock together–or so they say. When we are younger and have the influence of parents to guide us and be our solid foundation, we can hang around with friends who have behaviors we don’t like.
In school, I had friends who did things I didn’t agree with and I was tempted to just give in to their self-destructive habits, but my inner strength and the support of my family kept me solid in my beliefs.
But as we age it becomes easier to pick up bad habits from those people we surround ourselves with because they seem okay in our social circle. It’s a slippery rope where often we don’t recognize when we are sliding until we wake up one day and wonder what has happened to our life, our hopes, and to our dreams.
To be successful in achieving your dreams you have to find positive people who will support you and your efforts.
It’s the idea behind the 8WomenDream website. The idea is that if people don’t have anyone to support their dreams, they could come here to be inspired.
I submit stories from my heart to encourage you to take a chance on yourself and your dreams.
But I implore you to search for people in your world who ooze loyalty, give love, practice kindness, bestow respect, live from conviction, and shower you in empathy.
Find people who will lovingly support your dreams and are passionate to help you achieve them. Seek out the company of those who demand that you become better and hold you accountable to your dream commitments. I promise you these people are out there!
Even a true, supportive friend won’t mind if you ask for dream help.
Blanket your soul with people who want what you want out of life, whose passions resonate with you, who demand that you step up to the task at hand –and watch how quickly your dreams come true.
