The local temperature is too hot for an old menopausal broad like myself, so I went to the movies with my gal-pal Toni. Nothing like an air-conditioned movie theater to beat the heat. Toni and I love movies – we’ve written one and we dream of selling a movie script one day.
We decided to go see the Joan Rivers documentary, A Piece of Work.
Talk about a tenacious dreamer.
I had no idea the struggle Joan was up against being a woman in the male-dominated world of broadcast television. I didn’t know she was black-balled by Johnny Carson.
What a prick – if you will excuse my French.
It was all cool while her raucous, crazy sense of humor was pumping Carson’s ratings, but as soon as she was offered her own show on Fox, Johnny Carson made sure she was never seen on NBC again, that is until she kicked butt on Celebrity Apprentice.
Her dream was to be an actress and the comedy thing got her in the door. I did not know that either. I can only dream of having half the balls she has. At 75 years old, she often has 3 or 4 appointments a day (as well as) stand-up gigs until 2 am.
It made me wonder if we are being clear about our dreams to others?
Perception is the reality. I would never have guessed Joan wanted to be taken seriously as an actress. She puts up with a lot of crap to keep going for that dream. Are you expressing yourself in a way that clarifies your dream to the outside world?
Good old Joan made me think about how tireless one must be in their pursuit of a dream.
I believe I will double my efforts after watching that non-stoppable old babe do her thing. Go see the movie. If you are doing half as much as Joan you surely will see your dream come true.
Do I dare write a Joan Rivers Rap?
Joan Rivers gives me the shivers
But, man that chick has some balls
She works from sun up
To sun down
To make sure her career never stalls
Her vagina must be around her neck
From all the nip and tuck
She’s survived and thrived in a mans world
And it had nothin’ to do with luck
So my hat’s off to Joan
Doin’ her thing on her own
Bitch has paved the way for many of us
So get on, get on, get, get on the bus
