Happy Positive Thursday dreamers!
I hope you had a week full of peace, purpose and joy!
I’ve had a great week, but its definitely been an eye-opening week. I’m coming to terms with the fact that I am done with college in three weeks. “College student” has been a title and identity I have cheerfully accepted and wholeheartedly enjoyed the past three and half years.
Regardless of vacations, breaks and internships, I’ve always known they are temporary. I’ll always have my safe haven of Ohio University to return to. In a few weeks, that won’t be the case!
Although I am excited for new changes and transitions, it is a little scary.
Life as a college senior has proved to be a whirlwind of questions and confusion, but with that–a jumble of excitement and opportunity. And that’s what I’m going to focus on. Rather than surround myself with fear of the unknown, I will surround myself with hope and excitement.
I wouldn’t be who I am today without the last four years and I probably wouldn’t be looking for the same future opportunities that I’m pursuing now. College has been such a key time in my life to grow up and grow. Instead of basing my identity around “college”.
i·den·ti·ty:
- The collective aspect of the set of characteristics definitively recognizable or known
- The quality or condition of being the same as something else.
- The distinct personality of an individual regarded as a persisting entity; individuality.
My “identity” as a college student isn’t all encompassing. I am so much more than that! And so are you! You are not just a mom or JUST a teacher or JUST a sales rep.
Don’t limit yourself to one “title”; don’t put yourself in that small box. You are so much more than that! One task I want to do this week is write down how I identify myself outside of being a college student. I am extremely proud of my college student status, but need to appreciate other aspects of my personality, my lifestyle and my identity that encompass who I am.
Your early 20s is the time you are refining the young man or woman you were created to be!
At every age we can be challenging ourselves to view ourselves from an outside lens. We are more than just ONE word, more than just ONE short stage of life. Keep your head held high and continue pursuing the future confidently while enjoying the moments you are in.
May today be the day be the day you realize your self-worth and identity don’t come from one small time frame or stage of life.
Until next positive Thursday
XO —Andi
