How I Juggle Life and Catch Curve Balls

Last updated on November 6th, 2019 at 12:23 am

If I were any more flexible with what life throws at me and everything I’m managing, my head could turn 360 degrees. I could see my own butt. I really could see what my kids are doing behind my back!

Of this, I am sure.

This week’s post was supposed to cover the contents of my horse medicine cabinet, in follow-up to the last equestrian dream story “How to Know if Your Horse is Sick?”

I have it partially written. I have photos planned. A friend was going to come out and show me (again!) how to put pictures in my post. I even learned how to take photos off of our digital camera. Then, life got in the way.

Darn, Life!!

Well, not darn Life–darn slow-moving courts, darn horses, darn Rose Parade, darn Tiger Cubs. Speaking of Tiger Cubs, I actually sat down here at my desk to make some phone calls and try to round up some kids for my son’s first Tiger Cub meeting which is happening on Thursday.

Then, it occurred to me that I hadn’t finished my story for 8WomenDream.

See how my days go? Instead of that lovely planned story, how about an update on my dream of becoming an accomplished equestrian?

Because . . . drum roll, please . . .

I do feel like I’ve made a bit of progress. Well, maybe not actual progress, but I’m back on track. That counts, doesn’t it?

I had the vet out to look at Nikki’s evil bump. He declared it a “splint” and gave me the stuff to rub on it twice a day for the next 10 days. And, he cleared Nikki to go back to work immediately.

That’s good! I’m back to having a horse to ride. I’ve lunged Nikki to get his sillies out before I climb back aboard.

He was so good, it made me almost look forward to riding him again! Unfortunately, thanks to Darn Life, Darn Rose Parade Float, Darn Tiger Cubs, Darn Work, I haven’t had a chance to ride him but the weekend is coming up, which at least gets rid of Darn Work.

But, here’s what I’m most excited about: My friend who would be interested in buying Nikki, should I decide to sell him, is going to come out and ride him for me when she can. She’s a really good rider and I’m hoping she’ll do Nikki some good. If nothing else, it means that Nikki will be getting out more and therefore (so my theory goes), he’ll be more cooperative when I ride him.

Which will make me a happier rider.

Which will lead to my wanting to ride more.

Which will hopefully keep me on the path to becoming an accomplished equestrian.

Until it rains and my arena turns into a mud pit, at least.

In the meantime, The Kroger Health Guide has an article about Stress Management called How to Juggle Home Life and Work-Life. They write, “Start by controlling what you can. Resist the urge to cope with stress by smoking, drinking too much, eating unhealthy foods, giving up exercise, or skimping on sleep. In the long run, these “solutions” will only make you feel worse, which can affect your energy and mental outlook. Instead, look for healthy ways to relieve your stress, such as exercising, meditating, or simply breathing deeply for a few minutes.”
