What does green mean to you?
As an entrepreneur green represents money and success. It doesn’t hurt that it is also my favorite color, and the color of my favorite gemstone that I fell in love with many years ago. Who can resist that huge emerald sparkling in “Romancing the Stone”?
Of course the color green plays several roles on On St. Patricks Day, most of which have nothing to do with the original intention of the holiday or the Saint himself. Although I do have Irish heritage, I have always been curious on the worldwide obsession for an excuse to drink. Or is that just in the US?
For those who are Irish one day a year, here are some fun facts about the holiday you can use to turn your dream green this week:
Start the celebration
St. Patrick’s Day was first celebrated in America in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1737. Around 34 million modern Americans claim Irish ancestry.
Today, it is a national holiday in Ireland and for those who actually celebrate the religious aspects of the Saint himself, they will most likely be in church, not the pub.
How do you celebrate your dream? Gratitude and thanks, or letting loose a little?
Bring on the beer
The libation of choice for St. Patricks Day is a pint of Guinness. Although we can find this on tap and in our grocery stores, the only way to truly enjoy a Guinness is in Ireland, straight from the tap. Next time I’m in Europe, this is one of my stops.
So who’s brilliant idea was it to turn beer green in the first place? There are too many stories about where it started, but it is definitely an American affectation since those Irishmen are pretty serious about their beer and prefer not to add anything to it.
What is your favorite beverage for celebrating your dream? I had to share this ad for Guinness. It gave me a much need laugh for today…
Look for that pot of gold
Grown men dressed as leprechauns is a perfectly acceptable sight during this holiday but they don’t have access to a real pot of gold.
Since those real leprechauns have been around since the 1600’s they have perfected the ability to hide that pot of gold, rainbow or not.
If you had a pot of gold, what would you be doing with it to help your dream?
For those of you who are nursing hangovers today, I offer this popular Irish toast to help you pull through:
May the roof above us never fall in, and may we friends beneath it never fall out.
Did you do anything to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day this year? Or better yet, when are you planning to celebrate your next dream accomplishment?
