January is the kick off for several fitness goals. Lose weight, start that workout plan, eat better. Your fitness dreamer has an easy assignment for you this week.
Get some fresh air!
I know my own fitness goals get caught in the process of getting it done. Plan for a run one day, swimming the next, cycling on the weekend. At least that is the plan when the weather is warm. Despite my fitness goals, most of my work is at a desk, or sitting in some fashion in front of a computer. The short days make it hard to get out in the sun, what little there is this time of year.
Cold weather and I don’t mix so my asking you to get outside has to be backed up by my own undertaking. Even if I was wearing thermals and several layers.
My husband and I have driven past the Laguna De Santa Rosa Regional Trails off of Highway 12 in Sonoma County. We were never in a position to take the time to walk the area.
The marshland area has several birds and a small cache of ducks in a pond. We took a less traveled path and quickly discovered why there was not as many people trekking that way.
The dirt trail turned into horse trail and a pretty muddy trek. I haven’t ever seemed to figure out how to have the right shoes on any outdoor trek. We laughed as we slipping and slid, making flocks of robins take wing to avoid our intrusion.
Getting outdoors helps reset our perspective.
Splashing through low marsh reeds wasn’t the plan for the day, but it did offer an amazing side effect. Despite socks that were getting a little wet through my shoes, and the walk being squishier than planned.
Getting out in the outside world can feed your mind in new ways. Taking a break can reboot your thought process. No matter what you are stuck on.
Dreaming takes a lot of energy
Have you had days when you just could not get your creativity to kick in? I’ve had that issue for several months now and there are times when walking away and getting a bit of exercise in the great outdoors can help.
As we caught up to the main trail the large ruts caught my eye and got me thinking about all the little ruts we catch ourselves in with our dreams.
Looking at big projects as a whole and not breaking it down into little tasks? This is what I’ve been doing for a long time. It is really exhausting to keep looking at the giant brick wall in the way to your dream if you don’t have a simple plan on how to scale it.
These are thoughts that can finally reintroduce themselves to you when you give them the time to surface. When you give yourself the time to wander outside in the brisk air without any real plan other than to see where the path you are on ends up.
Where’s your time to get some fresh air?
Dreamers are a tough and determined group of people. While you are working on your own dream plans this week, encourage your dream team to take a break. Get some fresh air in your lungs, and it just may refresh your dream.
