Dream Status Update: Find space to spread out and officially take over the house with your dream.
I can’t complain about space. The girls here at 8 women dream have all been to my place, and one thing we aren’t lacking is space. With my dream of jewelry design taking up a chunk of the family room, and Ray’s photos all over the dining nook, we tend to spread out.
A quick look at the photo pictured below of our current living room set up will give you a clue of what I’m talking about.
So what’s the harm in filling your entire house with your dreams?
Finding space to focus.
Here’s an example of how lack of focus has impacted the dreams floating around my house. Ray and I recently took a hard look at the last 6 months accomplishments.
Since we are married and business partners (a good mix for us) we try to do this on a regular basis. We had several things we did get done, and lots of big stuff we didn’t.
Case in point – my seriously neglected jewelry web site.
So what did we discover? We can’t multi-task the big business growth projects. Things kept slipping through the cracks and we were falling behind on all our self imposed insane deadlines. There were too many, going in too many directions.
Coming from a serial multi-tasker, this was a hard weakness to admit.
Focus is what was missing from our plan.
Time to admit we weren’t focused (and excellent advise from our de facto business coach Remy) let us realize we had to tackle the big projects one at a time together.
We made the conscious decision to pick one project and get it done. First on the agenda was Ray’s photography sales.
How has this helped? We have 2 portfolios for Ray’s photos, a store in Petaluma that will be displaying his art to sell, and a lead for 2 more photography gigs.
How can this help you focus on your dream? My suggestion – take a look at your multi-tasking and see where you may completing an exercise in futility.
