Dream goal status: Jewelry in a retail space . . . CHECK!
While supporting my husband with his own dream at his first art exhibition and sale this past Saturday at Haus Fortuna, and exclusive retail shop in Petaluma, California, I remembered the number 1 rule of a jewelry artist:
Always wear your jewelry designs.
I chose a recent fairly complex design piece to wear Saturday.
It paid off big-time.
While speaking to the store manager, Jodi, I casually mentioned that I did jewelry design while ogling all their gorgeous baubles with Italian Murano Glass beads.
Later in the afternoon, she asked if I made the necklace I was wearing.
Once I said yes, she made sure I spoke with Karla, Haus Fortuna’s lovely owner, to get the low down on my jewelry.
Little did I know they had been looking for jewelry designers for a while.
And, they wished a jewelry designer would actually follow up.
And I almost didn’t say a word.
I always joke that half of getting business is to answer to phone.
Now I will have to say the other half is to ask.
Will I be spending the majority of my weekend fixing my inventory sheet, and tying tiny strings to hang tags for my necklaces and earrings?
And I’ll be loving every minute of it.
