Did I really say my big dream is to be an accomplished equestrian?
Some women buy expensive shoes – I buy UlcerGard for Stormy, my 20 year old horse.
Some women check into a spa – I’m up in the barn at 9:30 at night, checking for digital pulses, feeling down legs for heat and or swelling, fussing over standing wraps, going through signs and symptoms in my head.
Some women have a purse or bag for every occasion and outfit – I have 3 gallons of Bismucil (more stomach ulcer horse medicine).
Some husbands buy their wives beautiful jewelry – My husband doesn’t blink at my animals’ vet bills:Â $200 on Monday for Nikki’s last visit with the vet; $400 Tuesday for various maintenance medicines for Stormy and Flicka; dog is going to the vet on Wednesday morning and Dr. Harlan will be out Wednesday afternoon to see why Stormy is 3-legged lame (we think its a hoof abscess).
So, no progress towards my dream of becoming an accomplished equestrian. Just lots of anxiety-producing, horse-related problems. No riding lately either. 4.25 inches of rain last week, followed by another quarter to half inch the other day has turned my arena into tendon-bowing, shoe-sucking-off mud trap.
And
I brought home a pot-bellied pig.
Please don’t ask why. “But you have enough . . . ” Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know. Pig’s name is Mango. She needed a home and is here on a trial basis. And does anyone know anything about pot-bellied pigs?
Is this what is known as distracting oneself from working on their dream?
‘Til next week,
Danelle
