You Don’t Have To Wish On Shooting Star To Make Your Dreams Come True

Last updated on November 6th, 2019 at 12:02 am

A stream of debris from the Comet Swift-Tuttle, lovingly referred to as the annual Perseid meteor shower has been sprinkling our atmosphere with fairy dust this week. Wednesday night my son and I dragged our lounge chairs out on the lawn to lay in the dark and witness shooting star after shooting star (I know – meteor dust). Guess how many dream wishes I made?

Ten.

Hey, I was not about to waste all the falling stars. The only thing is I had to make my wishes like little Tweets, short and fast to make it before the meteor debris burned out into the darkness.

You’d be surprised at how fast I can think. It makes my fast-talking look like nothing.

This constant stream of meteor debris appears to radiate from the legendary constellation of Perseus. The stuff Greek legends are made of. It is rumored that Ancient humans believed that when you saw a meteor fly across the sky the gods were about to bestow a gift from the heavens. This is supposedly where the custom of wishing upon a falling star comes from.

As I laid there next to my son watching the vast dark night sky I thought a lot about dreams and wishes and what an amazing world we live in. I thought about how lucky I am to have a son that would want to drag out some lawn chairs and watch the night sky with his mom. I think he was really hoping for a UFO sighting along the lines of the movie, Mars Attacks.

He is 14.

As I watched the satellites and shooting stars flying above my head I realized how sure I am that we can achieve our dreams. I think it is more a question of being willing to take the necessary small steps and not giving up on ourselves rather than our dreams are impossible to achieve. If this meteor shower has been showing up to thrill the night sky for over 2000 years, then I think we can spend 15 minutes today making our dreams a reality.

Even if it takes 2000 years.

Don’t we deserve it?

For me, I still have some steps I need to take this fall as I continue on my path toward my dream of getting published (the paying kind bound with a cover) and being invited to speak to people (the paying kind bound by chairs in an auditorium) I need to do the following in the next month–

  1. Write my ice breaker speech for Toastmasters.
  2. Finish the ebook for the 8 Women Dream website
  3. Finish getting A Week In The Life of A Redhead cleaned up for a future published book. This month we will witness a blog to book to movie event Julie and Julia from the book Julie and Julia: 365 Days, 524 Recipes, 1 Tiny Apartment Kitchen and the Julia Powell blog What Could Happen. The screen adaptation was written and directed by Nora Ephron who also used the book My Life in France, which is Julia Child’s autobiography, written with Alex Prudhomme.
  4. Invite the 7 other women of 8 Women Dream to go see the movie Julie and Julia together as another movie event to keep our inspiration alive.
  5. Continue hiking Spring Lake and making healthy food choices.
  6. Set the date for us 7 to go walk across the Golden Gate bridge.
  7. Meet with Wendy for coffee.
  8. Meet with Danelle for coffee.
  9. Get my new hair cut.
  10. Get a manicure.
  11. Keep on meditating every day.

And if you need inspiration in the meantime, I leave you with the trailer for the movie Julie and Julie and tell you ladies to hang on tight to your dreams –

It didn’t take Julie and Julia 2000 years.
