It’s no secret that women want to feel beautiful.
From an early age we learn that if we are pretty we are more likely to succeed in life. We’ll snag good husbands and get good jobs if people like us. Sometimes the message is straight forward such as being voted prom queen and other instances it is more subtle like games on the playground.
One of the deepest insults children throw at each other is calling someone “ugly” or “fat”.
Many women carry wounds from early childhood into their adult bodies.
That’s why I do the work that I do. I have the same voice that criticizes my body and tells me I’m not beautiful. The voice tells me if I’m not perfect then I must be ugly. As I work through my own issues I’m better able to help other women work through theirs. When I find another person as dedicated to empowering women, I geek out a bit.
Let me introduce Jade Locke. She is the dazzling mastermind behind The Secret Boutique, a high end custom corset and dress business that makes women glow.
After reading an article by friend and writer Aimee Heckel, I knew that I HAD to buy one of Jade’s custom pieces to celebrate my 31st birthday. I had not lost all the weight I’d wanted and knew that if I could find the right corset I would have the ultimate birthday dress to flatter my transitioning body.
Since I had never had a dress made, I was nervous.
(My wedding dress had been a beautiful Indian lengha and didn’t require fittings.) Though I was nervous, Jade made the process so easy. She had adorable little note pads with the image of a woman’s body. Dimensions of waist, hips, torso were sketched onto the notepads. And the notepad forms are of average sized women!
Jade makes the dresses out of corsets and bustles. All from scratch and by hand. She makes sure that the corset doesn’t just nip you in at the waist, you can also move, dance, sit and eat in it. I have to admit, I was able to party with the corset on longer than anyone. There’s an art to creating the boning and shape. Jade is a sculptress of the female form.
Jade is easy to talk to, beautiful, and has a soft tone of voice. She understands a woman’s body because she has one. I was struck by how our missions aligned. We know so many women who need this negative inner voice silenced. Jade created a dress that accentuated my best features and minimized my flaws! She made the process easy and I felt like a million bucks on my birthday. I felt beautiful.
Jade understand the secret to teaching women how to feel beautiful.
